Integrated Models and Tools for Fine-Grained Prosody in Discourse

In this project, we are putting together existing and new annotations for discourse and prosody on the Switchboard Corpus into one integrated data set and using that to establish a better model of prosodic prominence in conversational speech that takes into account information structure, animacy, syntax and contrast. The LTG's role in this project is to support this research work by performing the integration and tools for the analysts, using the open source NITE XML Toolkit (NXT) as the basic platform.

The LTG's main objectives for this project are to provide the integrated data set and make improvements to the NITE XML Toolkit, including faster query language processing, better scalability, and integration with the tools used in prosodic research.
